Child run over during hijacking

A 10-year-old-girl was ran over after her mother pulled her out of a vehicle during a hijacking in Lenasia Extension 10’s Danube Street on February 25.

On the morning of Thursday at around 7am, a mother was about to take her two children, aged 10 and 16, to school when the incident unfolded.

After she had pulled out of the drive way and awaiting her son, who was locking the gate, three unknown men approached the vehicle, fired one shot and ordered the mother to get out of the vehicle.

According to a family member, one of the suspects pulled the mother out of the vehicle.

“In order for the perpetrators not to drive off with her daughter, the mother pulled her out of the vehicle,” said the family member.

As the suspects fled the scene with the silver Toyota Corolla, they drove over the 10-year-old girl.

The mother screamed for help and that is when the family had realised what had occurred.

Police and paramedics were called to scene.

“Saaberie Chishty transported the daughter to Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital,” added the family member.
