Picture not related to actual incident.

Motorists are urged to use alternative routes as there have been reports of protest action along the Golden Highway in Lenasia South.

Although the reasons for the protest action aren’t clear yet, protestors are said to have blockaded the Golden Highway between Wimbledon and Provincial Road with rocks and boulders.

They are also alleged to be stoning passing vehicles.

JMPD spokesperson, Superintendent Wayne Minnaar urged motorists to avoid the Golden Highway.

“Motorists travelling from Orange Farm and Ennerdale are advised to use alternative routes. With rocks on the roads, it’s not safe for motorists to travel on the Golden Highway at this point” Minnaar said:.

Alternative roads to be used are the N1, the old Lawley Road and the k43.
