Reggie Moloi’s decision reversed on cremation at the Avalon Crematorium

Cllr Kishore Badal, Mickey Padayachie and Jenny Moodley addressed the community.

After a report was released that there will not be any cremations taking place at the Avalon Crematorium on weekends and on public holidays, an urgent meeting was called to resolve the issue.

On October 30, various religious organisations, stakeholders and the community gathered at the Lenasia Extension 7 Recreation Centre to resolve the issue.

Region G Director (Mickey Padayachie), Ward 9 Councillor (Kishore Badal) and a representative of City Parks and ZOO (Jennie Moodley) addressed the community.

“The decision by Reggie Moloi to halt cremation on weekends and holidays has been reversed. There will be cremations taking place on those days,” said Region G Director, Mickey Padayachie.

With that said, the community raised its issues concerning the By-laws surrounding cremation.

“The By-law concerning none cremation on weekends and holidays has been in existence for about 35 years, however, was not enforced,” said Cllr Badal.

Badal added that he does agree that the decision was uncalled for.

Jennie Moodley sent out an apology on behalf of Reggie Moloi and City Parks.

Updates to follow.
