Johannesburg Central Cluster has issued a warning to all shoppers who will be visiting various malls for their festive shopping. Criminals are out in their numbers to capitalize on this season. They are snatching shoppers’ wallets and cell phones.  These acts are rife in Mall of the South, The Glen Shopping Mall and South Gate Mall.

Captain Xoli Mbele of Johannesburg Central, elaborated, “Criminals cut one’s bag with a razor underneath or open one’s zip while busy shopping”, he said.

Captain Mbele offered the following tips to the shoppers;

  • While busy shopping in the mall; put the handle of your bag around your neck and let the bag be on your chest. In that way no one can take your belongings without seeing.
  • Don’t hang your bag on your shoulder because you give suspects an opportunity to steal your wallet or cell phone.
  • If you suspect anything wrong inform the security guard in the mall
  • Working together between the Police and the community can eradicate theft of cell phones and wallets in the Johannesburg Central Cluster Stations.
