Moulana Mohammed Patel gunned down in Fordsburg

Fordsburg at large is mourning the death of one of its own, Moulana Mohammed Patel, who was gunned down next to his house in the wee hours of November 21.

Patel was shot on his way back from the mosque.

Patel was a teacher at the Johannesburg Muslim School. His death has left a huge void in the community and has raised a lot of questions.

The motive for the killing is not known at this stage.

Community members and some activists expressed their frustration on social media.

Yusuf Abramjee, urged community members to take a stand against crime.

Johannesburg Mayor, Cllr Herman Mashaba conveyed his condolences to the family.

He said “My deepest condolences to the family and the community of Mayfair. Such heinous acts make me more resolute to flush criminals out of our communities. Our residents have rights too.”

Cllr Alex Christians, the Ward 58 councillor, also sent his condolences to the family of Moulana Patel, “I call upon the community to stand together to purge us of these criminal elements and put pressure on national and province to get SAPS working for all of us”, he said.

No arrests have been made as yet.
