Library closes after ceiling leakages

LENASIA South Library was temporarily closed after roof leaks were detected. Councillor Nonhlanhla Sifumba, of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development, released a statement on November 9, informing residents of the closure of the Lenasia South Library owing to heavy rainfalls that caused the roof to leak in some sections of the library.

Both the children’s and the adult’s study areas had to be cordoned off owing to the leaks in the ceiling.

The contractors are on site and have commenced with repairs. Library users are advised to use alternative facilities within the region, which include Lenasia Extension 3, Eldorado Park Extension 1 and Eldorado Park Extension 9 during this period.

“As The City of Johannesburg, we care for the lives of all the residents and visitors to Joburg. We cannot take any risks when it comes to the safety of library users and employees. Although the closure was considered as a last resort, we deemed it necessary to prevent any accidents,” said MMC Sifumba.

“The roof leaks show the neglect of the City’s facilities. That was the order of the day, during the previous administration. When the current administration took over, it vowed to offer services in a manner that will ensure that services are delivered to all the residents of the City. It is unfortunate that closures such as these are necessary. I would like to assure the residents that this administration is working tirelessly to repair the neglect, which are a legacy of the past,” added MMC Sifumba.
