Long grass, abandoned stands and other dilapidated houses has been identified as some of the major problems in Lenasia South Extension 4.
Community members have demolished some of the houses and converted them into car washes and other facilities.
Community members stated that some were using the abandoned houses to execute their criminal activities.
On April 5, Johannesburg Road Agency, City Parks, Urban Management, Pickitup, City Of Joburg Property Company and other stakeholders undertook a walkabout of the area.
The team which were led by Mount Logan Men’s Forum visited some of the empty stands and open space which learners’ used as a short cut to schools.
The safety of students and community members were top of the agenda. Authorities acknowledged the challengers that the community is facing, and committed to work together to resolve the problems.
Stakeholders, in a resolve to eradicate the problems faced by the community, promised a massive clean-up of the area.
Community members were also urged to desist from dumping in open spaces.
Speaking to the Rising Sun, Thapelo Khulu, Secretary of Mount Logan Men’s Forum, said community members are excited to see stakeholders committing themselves to clean-up the area.
